Spending a day in Brooklyn is one of my favorite things to do in NYC! It is less touristy than Manhattan but has just as much character and beauty around every corner. From DUMBO to The Botanical Gardens and tons of great restaurants there is something for everyone in Brooklyn.
Walk Over The Brooklyn Bridge
This iconic piece of engineering in New York City connects Manhattan to Brooklyn spanning over the East River. The bridge is open 24 hours a day and often busy with tourists and commuters. Choose to walk, bike, or drive over the bridge to kick off a day in Brooklyn. Although the bridge is only about 1.3 miles long; plan 30-45 minutes to allow time to admire the views and take photos.
Take in The Views From DUMBO
DUMBO (which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a trendy neighborhood you can access right after crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. The cobblestone streets are home to boutique shops, popular cafes and high-end restaurants. Famous for is view of the Manhattan Bridge and picturesque views of the Manhattan skyline; DUMBO is a must visit on a day in Brooklyn.
Eat at Smorgasburg
Smorgasburg is the largest open-air food market in America with 20,000-30,000 visitors each weekend. Choose from over 100 local food vendors every Saturday at the Williamsburg Waterfront. Here you can enjoy your food while soaking up a great view of the water and downtown Manhattan. Each Sunday you can choose from the same great vendors at Prospect Park. Hours at both locations are 11 AM- 6 PM.
Explore Brooklyn Heights
Brooklyn Heights is a beautiful neighborhood known for its low-rise architecture. As you walk through you will find churches, art galleries, and tree lined streets of brownstone row-houses. The Brooklyn Heights Promenade is a pedestrian platform flaunting incredible views of Manhattan across the river.
Walk Through Prospect Park
Prospect Park is a 526 acre public park in Brooklyn. It is easily accessible by public transit with many walking and bike paths throughout the park. Home to baseball fields, a zoo, tennis courts, a lake, and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens; its an easy place to spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors.
Marvel at The Botanical Garden
The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are located in Prospect Park and entry is $15 USD per person. There are many different aspects including a herb garden, a lily pool, a bonsai museum, tropical and desert sections and more! The best time to visit is in early spring when the stunning cherry blossoms come into bloom!
